Fouling Mitigation in Membrane Distillation Using Pulsation Flow Technique

چکیده
The main obstacles to scaling up membrane distillation (MD) on a commercial level are fouling and temperature polarization. Therefore, in this study, the significance of pulsation feed flow phenomenon was used for (DCMD) polarization, comparisons were made using steady-state flow. Two different Hertz amplitudes trends DCMD sources water, including distilled seawater, wastewater. Compared flow, results revealed that flux enhanced seawater once operating became turbulent, it even more rate increased turbulence moved. For wastewater, had an impact delaying beginning decline point enhancing overall freshwater recovery. In both flows (1 2 Hertz), also deficiency improvement distribution channel desalination wastewater running under typical operational conditions. Taking value into consideration, enhancement mass (~5–10%) observed compared Moreover, channels found reduce CPC by about 10–15%, proving role mixing mitigating reduction concentration

Membrane Distillation for Water Recovery and Its Fouling Phenomena
The total volume of water on Earth is circa 300 million cubic miles, with close to 98.0% being salt water and the remaining 2.0% fresh water. It has been increasingly more challenging to harvest fresh water from surface water, seawater and even from wastewater due to the combination of factors, viz. burgeoning population growth, rapid industrialization and climate change. Recently, membrane dis...

Direct contact membrane distillation (DCMD) which emerges as an alternative separation technology can effectively perform a colloidal separation process under thermal driven force. DCMD is capable of extracting pure water from aqueous solutions containing non-volatile nanoparticles through the hydrophobic microporous membrane when a vapour pressure difference was established across the membrane...
متن کاملEffect of Filtration and Particulate Fouling in Membrane Distillation
Fouling and scaling in membrane distillation (MD) is one of the significant barriers to its continued growth. Fouling in MD blocks the pores, causing a decline in permeate flux, and may eventually lead to wetting of a hydrophobic membrane by the saline feed, contaminating the permeate. Many previous studies on MD have observed that while MD is more fouling resistant than reverse osmosis (RO), i...

متن کاملA scaling mitigation approach during direct contact membrane distillation
Membrane scaling during the treatment of aqueous solutions containing sparingly soluble salts by direct contact membrane distillation (DCMD) was investigated. The results reveal that membrane scaling caused by CaSO4 was more severe than that by CaCO3 or silicate. However, under the experimental condition used in this study and at feed and distillate temperature of 20 C and 40 C, respectively, C...
